JABSOM SimTiki Simulation Center receives Society of Simulation in Healthcare 5 year accreditation in Teaching/Education and Research.
The JABSOM SimTiki Simulation Center was awarded Accreditation in Teaching/Education and Research by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSIH). SimTiki Associate Director Dr. Jannet Lee and Chief Simulation Specialist Kris Hara, RRT accepted the certificate at the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare in New Orleans on January 12, 2015. Accreditation was awarded based on compliance with the SSIH seven core operational standards; Mission and Governance; Organization and Management; Facilities, application and technology; Evaluation and improvement; Integrity; Security; and, Expanding the field. Director Dr Ben Berg, Dr Lee, Ms Hara and Sim Program Manager Eileen Maeda generated a 763 page application! A SSIH site visit conducted at SimTiki in November 2014 included interviews with key leaders, including Dr. Richard Kasuya, Associate Dean for Education, Dr. Damon Sakai, Director of OME, Medical Students, Residents, JABSOM faculty. Reviewers noted several strengths including provision of quality experiences for learners; that the JABSOM curriculum committee ensures integration of simulation throughout the program; and the benefits of SimTiki international outreach and research scholar programs. SimTiki is one of 54 nationally and internationally SSIH Accredited Simulation Education Centers, and is the only Center in Hawaii which is SSIH accredited in Teaching/Education and Research.
